Easter: When His Story Becomes Yours
Intro:
When you think about Easter… what comes to mind?
For many of us, Easter has always been a big deal.
Maybe you remember:
Easter baskets filled with chocolate bunnies
Eggs packed with jelly beans
Running around on an egg hunt
As a kid, it was exciting.Your parents or grandparents made it special.
But for many… Easter means something more.
More Than a Memory
Easter isn’t just a holiday.
It marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ—the most important event in human history.
Everything we know about the church, about faith, about changed lives…comes from this moment.
Out of the message of the gospel—the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus—lives have been transformed.
But this isn’t just a story about someone far away.
The story of Easter intersects with your story.
Your Story Meets His Story
Every person has a story.
Different details…But similar realities:
A past
Pain
Mistakes
Moments we wish we could change
At some point in your life—whether young or later—you come across the message of Easter.
You hear what happened. And eventually… you begin to understand why it happened.
Why It Happened
Romans 4:25 tells us:
Jesus was handed over to die because of our sins.
Not someone else’s.Mine. Yours.
Jesus didn’t die because of anything He did.
He was innocent.
He died in place of the guilty.
The Debt Was Paid
Colossians 2:13–14 explains it clearly:
We were dead in our sin.We owed a debt to a holy and righteous God.
And Jesus…
Forgave all our sins
Canceled the record of our debt
Took it away by nailing it to the cross
That’s substitution.
Him instead of me.
The Empty Tomb Changes Everything
Then came the first Easter morning.
In Matthew 28:5–6, the angel tells the women:
“Don’t be afraid… He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as He said would happen.”
The tomb was empty.
Jesus didn’t stay dead.He rose again—and walked on earth for 40 days.
And that changes everything.
Why the Resurrection Matters
The resurrection is what sets Jesus apart from anyone else.
He is not just a good teacher.
He is God.
He has power over death and the grave.
Because here’s the truth:
A dead savior is no one’s savior.
If Jesus didn’t rise…
There’s no power
No hope
No salvation
1 Corinthians 15:14 says:
If Christ has not been raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your faith is useless.
But He did rise.
And because He did…
Romans 4:25 says we can be made right with God.
From Possibility to Personal
That truth is powerful—but it has to become personal.
Not just something that happened…
But something that applies to you.
Romans 5:1 says:
We have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.
Peace with God means:
No conflict
No separation
No fear
Things are finally… right.
What That Peace Looks Like
I’ve seen it firsthand.
People nearing the end of their lives—no panic, no fear…
Just peace.
Because they know where they’re going.
And the truth is:
For all of us, time is moving forward. Our days are numbered.
And in the end:
Money won’t matter
Status won’t matter
Possessions won’t matter
Only one thing will:
Are you right with God?
How It Becomes Real
Peace with God doesn’t come automatically.
It comes through faith.
It’s where what Jesus did for you…meets your response.
God has been pursuing you—relentlessly.
Through:
People
Circumstances
Conversations
Moments like this
Even when you were running away…He was running toward you.
Why?
Because He loves you.
His grace is a gift. His forgiveness is free.
But it must be received.
Taking a Step of Faith
Romans 10:9 says:
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
This means:
Believing Jesus died and rose again
Turning away from sin
Turning toward Him
Asking for forgiveness
Romans 10:10 adds:
It is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God.
This is where peace begins.
A New Beginning
When you take that step…
Everything changes.
A new beginning
A second chance
A new direction
You are made new.
Your Moment
For many, this has already happened.
You can look back and remember the moment your life intersected with the truth of the gospel.
But maybe you’re not sure.
Or maybe you know… you haven’t made that decision yet.
So here’s the question:
What will you do with Easter?
A Simple Prayer
If you’re ready, you can take that first step today:
“Jesus, I know I have sinned.I believe You died for me and rose again.I ask You to forgive me.I turn from my sin and trust in You.Be my Lord and Savior. Amen.”
Don’t Keep It to Yourself
If you make that decision:
Tell someone.
Talk to:
A friend
A family member
Someone at church
Because today could be:
The best day in your past…
Or the beginning of your new life today
Closing Thought
Easter is more than a memory.
It’s the moment where His story becomes yours.
And it starts with a simple step of faith.
