Introduction: Christmas Memories & a Greater Joy Ahead

Many of us carry fond memories of Christmas growing up — the lights, the excitement, the food, the search for hidden presents, the tree cutting, and of course, the carols.

Joy to the World reminds us that heaven and nature sing — a theme woven throughout Scripture.

Luke 2:13–14 describes angels flooding the night sky in praise.Isaiah 6 shows heaven’s worship filling the temple.Psalm 150 declares all creation praising God.

Heaven’s worship is continual — and Scripture pulls back the curtain to show us what awaits those who trust in Christ.

Understanding the future gives strength for the present. We are strangers and pilgrims here. This world is not our home.

1. Heaven Is a Place of Renewal

Revelation 21:1

John sees “a new heaven and a new earth.”This vision unfolds after the tribulation, after final judgment (Revelation 20), when sin is forever removed and the curse is no more.

Everything is made new — not repaired, but transformed. The old world, broken by sin, is gone.

The New Jerusalem — the city Jesus promised in John 14 — becomes the capital of eternity. Every redeemed believer will call this place home.

This is the future God has prepared for His people.

2. Heaven Is a Place of Reunion

Revelation 21:3

The greatest reunion of heaven is not with grandparents, friends, or Bible heroes — as wonderful as that will be.

The greatest joy of heaven is being with Jesus.

We will finally experience what God intended at creation:perfect fellowship, unhindered relationship, and face-to-face closeness with our Savior.

We won’t walk by faith anymore — we will walk by sight.

And yes, Scripture indicates we will recognize one another (Matthew 17:3; Luke 16:19–31). But the centerpiece of heaven is Christ Himself.

3. Heaven Is a Place of Release

Revelation 21:4–5

Imagine God personally wiping away every tear.

Everything that has weighed us down —fear, regret, grief, injustice, accidents, diagnoses, hospital rooms, funerals —all of it gone forever.

No more pain.No more death. No more sorrow.

The cross freed us from the penalty of sin.Heaven frees us from the presence of sin.

We can hardly imagine such a world — but it is coming.

4. Heaven Is a Place of Reflection

Revelation 21:21–23

John describes foundations made of priceless stones, streets of transparent gold, and gates formed from massive pearls.

Why such vivid imagery?

Because heaven reflects the glory of God Himself. The brilliance, color, and radiance all serve one purpose:to magnify the beauty of the Lord.

There will be no sun or moon — God’s glory will light the universe.

No one will arrive and say, “It’s not as good as I thought.”

Heaven will overwhelm us with gratitude.

5. Heaven Is a Place of Reservation

Revelation 21:24, 27

Heaven is not automatic. Not everyone enters.

Universalism — the idea that all will be saved — is simply not biblical.

You cannot walk up to heaven like a flight counter and enter without identification or a reservation.

Only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life — those forgiven through Christ’s sacrifice — enter God’s eternal kingdom.

Jesus is the only way (John 14:6).There is no back door.No alternate path.

6. Heaven Is a Place of Reassignment

Revelation 22:3–5

Heaven is not clouds and harps. We won’t be issued angel wings or recliners.

We will reign. We will serve. We will worship.

Our earthly body — described as a tent (2 Corinthians 5:1) — will be replaced with an eternal, glorified body suitable for everlasting life.

Will we recognize each other? Absolutely. Will we be married? Jesus said no — heaven operates on a different plane (Luke 20:35).Will there be animals? Scripture shows animals in heaven — beyond that, God may graciously surprise us.

Will eternity get boring? Not a chance.

Psalm 16:11 says God’s presence is fullness of joy — joy we have never fully tasted here.

The best part of heaven? We will see Jesus’ face (Revelation 22:4; 1 John 3:2).There is no greater reward.

Conclusion: Let Heaven and Nature Sing

Heaven sang at His birth.Heaven sings right now.Heaven will sing for all eternity.

What should we take from all of this?

  • Make sure your reservation is secure — trust Christ as Savior.

  • Don’t lose hope — this world is not the end.

  • Remember it will be worth it all when we see Jesus.

Joy to the world — the Lord has come. And joy to the world — the Lord will come again.
