Divine Direction
How Do I Know What God Wants Me to Do?
Good news first.
Because we never want to forget what God is already doing.
Thank you, Bridgepoint family, for your continued generosity and faithfulness:
Thank you for your partnership with the Mulfords as they prepare for Portugal.
Thank you for your ongoing support of Love INC and the impact happening locally.
And thank you for stepping up for Project Nepal — lives are being changed because of your obedience.
Church, you are making a difference.
35,000 Decisions
What does the number 35,000 mean to you?
Probably… nothing.
But researchers estimate that the average person makes about 35,000 decisions every single day.
If you take out sleep, that’s roughly 2,000 decisions per hour.
You might think, No way.
But think about it:
Move your arm
Pet the dog
Turn up the TV
Check your phone
Take another sip
We live in a constant state of decision.
One study even suggests we make 226 decisions a day just about food. (And if you’re married… maybe a few more. 😄)
Decision Fatigue Is Real
With that many choices, it’s no wonder we feel:
Tired of making decisions
Overwhelmed by options
Afraid of getting it wrong
Welcome to decision fatigue.
And for many people, it grows into something deeper:
Decision Anxiety
What am I supposed to do?
What if I make the wrong choice?
How do I know?
And Christians often add another layer on top of all of it:
What does God want me to do?
How do I know God’s will?
Does God have a perfect will?
Does He have a permissive will?
I’m willing to say yes… but what am I saying yes to?
Today is about Divine Direction — starting at the big-picture, 50,000-foot level — and building the foundation we stand on.
We All Have a Worldview
Whether we realize it or not…
Every one of us has a worldview.
You may never have said,
“My worldview is…”
…but you have one.
A worldview is:
The set of beliefs that forms the lens through which we see the world.
It shapes:
Our perspective
Our reactions
Our priorities
Our decisions
And here’s why this matters:
What I think determines what I do.
Your thoughts drive your actions.
Your lens shapes your life.
Two Competing Worldviews
There are opposing worldviews constantly fighting for our allegiance.
Jesus understood this.
The night before His crucifixion, He prayed for His followers (John 17:13–17):
They are not of the world
They are set apart
Sanctify them by truth
A Secular Worldview Says:
Humanity is at the center
Truth is relative to me
My truth is what matters
I am the authority
In short:
I am the center of the universe.
A Biblical Worldview Says:
God is at the center
Truth is independent of me
Truth is absolute
He is God — I am not
In short:
Everything revolves around Him.
As Christians, our worldview should be biblical.
But if we’re honest…
Sometimes culture, popular opinion, and non-biblical thinking quietly seep in.
That’s why Paul warned in Colossians 2:8 not to be taken captive by empty philosophy.
Four Foundations of a Biblical Worldview
If we’re going to have divine direction, we must build on the right foundation.
1️⃣ Creation — God Is Sovereign
Genesis 1:1
“In the beginning God created…”
Design always points to a Designer.
You look at Mount Rushmore — you don’t think, Wow, what an accident.
Consider the human body:
6 feet tall (give or take)
10–30 trillion cells
DNA coding beyond imagination
About 10 billion miles of blood vessels
We are not random. We are not accidents.
We are created in the image of God and deeply loved by Him.
What this produces: humility.
God is greater than me
I am accountable to Him
His will matters more than mine
2️⃣ The Fall — Humans Are Sinful
Romans 3:23
“For all have sinned…”
Adam and Eve’s rebellion introduced sin into the human story.
Every problem we see today ultimately traces back to the Fall:
Violence
Injustice
Disease
Brokenness
Suffering
Sin separates us from a holy God.
Justice demands payment.
And we cannot fix this ourselves.
What this produces: humility.
I know who I am.I know what I’ve done.I know I need help.
3️⃣ Redemption — Salvation Through Jesus
Acts 4:12
“Salvation is found in no one else…”
God provided the help we could never provide for ourselves.
Jesus:
Lived the life we couldn’t live
Died the death we deserved
Was buried
Rose again
Because of His grace:
Once dead — now alive
Once blind — now see
Once lost — now found
What this produces: humility.
I cannot save myself.I submit to my Savior.
4️⃣ Restoration — God Is Still Working
Philippians 1:6
“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion…”
Salvation is not the finish line.
It’s the beginning of transformation.
Through the Holy Spirit:
More of Him
Less of me
The fruit of the Spirit becomes visible
Daily surrender becomes our posture:
“Your will be done.”
What this produces: humility and hope.
My story is part of something bigger.
How This Plays Out Daily
A biblical worldview is not theory to leave at church.
It changes how we live.
I Decide My Whole Life Belongs to God
We must grow past immature faith that gives God only the easy parts.
It’s easy to say:
“God, you can have my turnips.”
(…because who even likes turnips anyway? 😄)
But what happens when we run everything through a biblical lens?
Finances
Relationships
Sexuality
Time
Job
Friends
Family
Future
You can’t silo your life and decide what belongs to God.
It all belongs to Him.
I Decide Conversations Are Opportunities
Every interaction is:
A person
In a place
At a time
Sometimes you meet someone who shares your worldview — encourage them, pray with them.
Sometimes you meet someone who sees the world very differently.
Too often, Christians treat them like enemies.
But Paul looked at Mars Hill and saw…
a mission field.
Our goal is not to win arguments.
Our goal is to win an ear.
Speak truth
In love
Without being a jerk
Sometimes you plant seeds.
God handles the harvest.
I Decide My Strength Comes From the Bible
You cannot sustain a biblical worldview on willpower alone.
There is constant pressure to conform.
Constant noise.Constant philosophy.Constant distraction.
Sometimes we get:
Worn down
Discouraged
Ready to quit
In those moments, remember:
You may not be able to trust:
People
Circumstances
Your emotions
But you can trust God.
The Call: Surrender and Renewal
Romans 12:1
Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice…
This becomes part of our daily consciousness.
Romans 12:2
Be transformed by the renewing of your mind…
When our thinking changes…
We begin to clearly discern:
What is the will of God.
And that — church — is where divine direction begins.
