Second Chances and the God Who Gives Them
Welcome to week four of our six-part series, Jonah and the Mercy of God. This week, we’re talking about something we’ve all needed at some point—a second chance.
We’ve seen Jonah run from God, get caught in a storm, swallowed by a great fish, and spend three days in darkness before being spit out onto dry land. Now in Jonah 3, we see what happens next. And here’s the incredible part: God isn’t done with Jonah. Despite his rebellion, God gives Jonah a second chance—not just to live, but to be used for His purpose.
This week, we’re digging into:
Why God still chooses flawed people. Jonah wasn’t perfect—neither are we. But God delights in using imperfect people to accomplish His perfect plan.
The power of obedience. Jonah heard the same command as before—but this time, he responded differently. Obedience wasn’t easier, but it was essential.
The urgency of God's message. Jonah preached a tough word—judgment is coming. But even in that message, we find the heartbeat of mercy.
We’ll look at the uncomfortable truth that God's mercy isn’t unlimited. There is a point of no return. But we also see that God gives warning because He wants people to turn back. That’s the message Jonah carried, and it's the message we carry too.
This sermon will challenge you to reflect:– Do I need a second chance in my relationship with God?– Have I been using “good” things as excuses to delay obedience?– What message is God calling me to deliver, and am I ready to respond?
Part 4: Second Chances and the God Who Gives Them is a powerful reminder that God's patience is purposeful, His grace is real, and His calling is still on your life.
You may have run. You may have rebelled. But God’s not done.
Now is your moment to step forward—with the message, and as the messenger.
