Running, Rebelling, and the Relentless Mercy of God
This is week two of our six-part series on Jonah and the Mercy of God, and today we’re diving deep into what happens when we resist God’s plan.
Last week, we explored how God called Jonah to Nineveh, and Jonah ran the other way. But rebellion doesn’t come without consequences. In Jonah’s case, his disobedience led to a life-threatening storm—not just for him, but for everyone around him.
This week, we’re asking some tough questions:
Are you running from God? Jonah had his reasons, and so do we—but are they worth the storm?
How do your choices affect others? Jonah’s rebellion endangered innocent sailors. Who might be struggling because of our decisions?
Is your pride keeping you stuck? Jonah would rather drown than obey. How often do we hold onto stubbornness rather than surrender?
What does God’s mercy look like in the middle of a storm? Just when Jonah thought his story was over, God had other plans.
The truth is, God doesn’t abandon us, even in our worst moments. No matter how far we’ve run, how bad we’ve messed up, or how stubborn we’ve been—He still offers mercy.
This sermon will challenge us to recognize the storms we’ve caused, acknowledge where pride is holding us back, and prepare our hearts for the moment when God steps in—because what seems like the end of the story is often just the beginning of His mercy at work.
Join us for Part 2: See Jonah Run—because your story isn’t over yet!
