Money touches everything—how we live, how we give, and how we trust. And if we’re honest, it can be one of the hardest areas to surrender to God.

But here’s the good news: the Bible doesn’t avoid money—it talks about it a lot. And not to make us feel guilty, but to lead us into freedom, peace, and purpose.

Whether you’re paycheck-to-paycheck, navigating wealth, or just trying to figure out where to start, God’s Word gives us a better way to think about finances.

Money Is a Tool—Not the Goal

Money isn’t the enemy. But it’s also not the point.

The Bible teaches that money is a tool, not a master. It can build generosity, reveal priorities, or—if we’re not careful—take God’s place in our hearts.

→ It’s not wrong to have money, but it is dangerous to love it.

“The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.” – 1 Timothy 6:10

→ How we spend reflects what we value.

“Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” – Matthew 6:21

→ You can’t serve two masters.

“You cannot serve both God and money.” – Matthew 6:24

Bottom line? Money makes a terrible god. But when submitted to God, it becomes a powerful tool for good.

Generosity Isn’t Optional—It’s Part of God’s Heart

Generosity isn’t just a Christian “bonus”—it’s central to who God is and how we’re called to live.

“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” – Proverbs 11:25

“Give, and it will be given to you… For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” – Luke 6:38

Generosity is about trusting that God will provide and reflecting the grace He’s already shown you.

What About Tithing?

Tithing—giving the first 10% of your income to God—is a biblical practice rooted in worship and trust.

“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse… ‘Test me in this,’ says the Lord… ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven.’” – Malachi 3:10

God doesn’t need our money. But tithing helps us live open-handed. It reminds us that everything we have already belongs to Him.

“A tithe of everything… belongs to the Lord.” – Leviticus 27:30

And Jesus didn’t cancel tithing—He actually affirmed it.

“You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.” – Matthew 23:23

Don’t Forget the Poor

One of the clearest messages in Scripture? God cares deeply about the poor. And we’re called to do the same.

“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord.” – Proverbs 19:17

“They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.” – Acts 2:45

“Whatever you did for one of the least of these… you did for me.” – Matthew 25:40

Giving to those in need isn’t charity—it’s Christlikeness.

What’s Stewardship, and Why Does It Matter?

Stewardship means managing what’s not yours—because it all belongs to God.

“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.” – Psalm 24:1

You’re not just making money decisions—you’re making kingdom decisions.

“It is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.” – 1 Corinthians 4:2

Jesus told a story in Matthew 25 about three people entrusted with resources. Two used theirs wisely. One buried it out of fear. The lesson? God honors faithful, bold stewardship.

What Does the Bible Say About Giving?

Giving is worship. It’s joy. It’s trust in action.

“God loves a cheerful giver.” – 2 Corinthians 9:7

“The service you perform… is overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.” – 2 Corinthians 9:12

Even the smallest, sacrificial gift matters.

“She… put in two very small copper coins.” – Mark 12:42

It’s not about the amount. It’s about the heart.

Practical Ways to Honor God with Your Money

Here are some simple, everyday steps:

→ Create a Budget

A budget is just a plan for where your money goes. Stewardship starts with being intentional.

→ Tithe First

Give before you spend. It’s a way to prioritize trust and worship.

→ Give to the Poor

Set something aside regularly to bless those in need.

→ Avoid Unnecessary Debt

“The borrower is slave to the lender.” – Proverbs 22:7

Freedom honors God more than overextension.

→ Pray Over Every Financial Decision

God cares about your bills, your generosity, and your peace of mind. Ask Him to lead the way.

Final Thoughts

Money isn’t just a budget issue—it’s a heart issue. It reveals what we trust and value most.

So what does the Bible say about money? It says:

  • Be generous.

  • Be wise.

  • Be faithful.

  • Trust God more than you trust your bank account.

Whether you’re working through debt, building toward financial freedom, or figuring out how to give, remember: God is your provider. He owns it all, and He’s with you every step of the way.

“Honor the Lord with your wealth… then your barns will be filled to overflowing.” – Proverbs 3:9–10
